Tesla Refresh Token

If the ‘Connect your vehicle’ page prompts you to enter a ‘Tesla Refresh Token’, you will need to obtain your refresh token using a third-party mobile app. These apps can be easily found on the App Store or Google Play Store by searching keywords such as ‘Tesla token’ or similar. Once you have obtained your refresh token, simply enter it in the dialogue box and connect your vehicle.

What is a refresh token and why do I need it?

The refresh token is a unique line of text that authorizes SmartCharge Rewards to access your Tesla account and connect your vehicle to our software. Refresh tokens can be easily generated through third-party mobile applications found on the App Store or Google Play Store.

Is my refresh token stored in SmartCharge Rewards?

Yes, the refresh token is the only information stored in SmartCharge Rewards. The refresh token is encrypted using industry standards in transit and before storage on disk.

What happens if I change my Tesla credentials? Does the refresh token change?

Yes, you will have to obtain a new refresh token using the method outlined above.

My vehicle is no longer connected to SmartCharge Rewards, what should I do?

It is possible that you need a new refresh token. Typically, this occurs because of a change in your Tesla login credentials. Obtain a new refresh token and enter it using the process outlined in the ‘Tesla Refresh Token’ section.
