SmartCharge Rewards

SmartCharge Rewards® programs are run by electric utilities and operate within utility service territories. Participants earn rewards for charging their EV during times that are better for the environment and the utility. It’s a win-win-win!

Environment

EVs play a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To further reduce their impact on the environment drivers should charge their EV when energy is the cleanest. Charging during peak periods often relies on dirty fuel sources, while off-peak charging draws on renewable energy.

Electric Vehicles

EVs have increased in popularity over the last few years. They are not only better for the environment but they are also better for the owner. They require less maintenance and you can “re-fuel” them at home, which is cheaper and more convenient.

Electric Grid

EVs are powerful and use a lot of electricity. Utility companies need to be able to predict and manage their power in order to make sure they don’t damage equipment like transformers. A simple way to do this is to encourage drivers to charge during a speciﬁc time period and have them avoid charging during another.
