Program description

Get Installed

Once you receive your connected car device, just follow the easy-to-understand installation and activation instructions. It’s a simple process and you should be up and running in minutes!

Get Charging

Review the guidelines for your program to find out when you should change and what times to avoid. Do your part to reduce carbon emissions by charging during “off-peak” hours.

Get Rewards

In addition to helping Snohomish PUD learn more about EV adoption in the region, you will be eligible to earn $50 for installing and activating your device, a $50 bonus at the end of the first year of participation, and an additional $25 at the end of the two year program. As part of year two of the program, you will also earn an additional $10 per month for not charging during winter and summer “peak” times:

  • Winter peak times (11/01/2021 – 02/28/2022): 7:00am – 9:00am and 5:00pm – 8:00pm (excludes weekends)
  • Summer peak times (07/01/2022 – 09/30/2022): 5:00pm – 8:00pm (excludes weekends)

Charging at home is very convenient and I am willing to do it off hours if it saves money and reduces strain on the grid.

SmartCharge Rewards is a connected car EV platform that allows organizations and individuals to gather useful data insights from electric vehicles while also rewarding EV drivers for participation in utility EV programs using SmartCharge Rewards.

Participants will install a small device in their vehicle that automatically collects and transmits vehicle information via a cellular connection. Data collected are shared with participants in a personalized portal and will be used by SmartCharge Rewards and Snohomish PUD to understand EV charging impacts on the grid.

You are eligible if you own or lease a plug-in electric vehicle – either a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle or battery electric vehicle, and you are a Snohomish PUD customer that typically charges your vehicle within Snohomish PUD territory.

A conventional hybrid operates only on gasoline. A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle can be connected to an external electric source to charge its battery. If your vehicle can be plugged in, you may be eligible to join the SmartCharge Snohomish PUD program.

Get Started

  • You’ll earn 50,000 points (equivalent to $50 in rewards) for every approved vehicle when you install, activate your device(s) and complete the first charge session in the Snohomish PUD service territory. So please be sure to include all of your electric vehicles in the application to ensure you receive the maximum reward!

Keep Going

  • By keeping the device installed and charging in the Snohomish PUD service area, you will earn an additional 50,000 points ($50) end-of-year bonus at the end of year one, for keeping the C2 installed.
  • An additional 25,000 points ($25) end-of-year bonus, will be awarded at the end of the program for all active C2 installed and reporting data.
  • An additional 10,000 points ($10) for avoiding “peak-time” charging during winter (11/01/2021 – 02/28/2022, 7:00am – 9:00am & 5:00pm – 8:00pm) and summer (07/01/2022 – 09/30/2022, 5:00pm – 8:00pm) periods. Weekends are not considered as part of the “peak times”.

Yes! Simply indicate the number of vehicles you wish to register for the program in your application.

The C2 is a connected car device that was developed to give electric vehicle drivers access to a wealth of information about their cars like driving efficiency, battery health, and more. It makes EV data access easy, comparable, and shareable.

The C2 gathers data directly from your vehicle’s internal systems, processes it, and makes it available to you via a mobile-friendly dashboard called SmartCharge Rewards.

The device is very easy to install, simply plugging into your vehicle’s on-board diagnostics (OBD-II) port or Tesla diagnostics connector. The OBD-II port is typically located below the steering wheel and is the same port mechanics plug into for diagnostic checks.

Instructions can be found athttps://www.smartchargerewards.com/support/, as well as mailed with your C2.

If you still have questions, please contact support@smartchargerewards.com.

No problem! Send us an email at support@smartchargerewards.com and we can send you a free y-cable so that you can have both devices connected.

The device should remain plugged in for the duration of the study. However, it is fine if your auto shop temporarily removes the device for diagnostic testing. Just be sure it is plugged back in afterward.

The study started on Wednesday September 9th, 2020, with the data collection period lasting until approximately September 2022.

Qualified participants will be able to redeem rewards for cash deposits into a PayPal account on a monthly basis. Setup your PayPal account here.
If you do not want to use PayPal, you will receive an Amazon card for the full amount of rewards earned at the end of the year.

Via the C2 hardware device, SmartCharge Rewards will collect information about:

  • Charging session duration, energy consumption and location.
  • GPS charging location coordinates will be used to determine how much charging is occurring within the Snohomish PUD service territory. We only collect GPS information when you are charging, not when you are driving.
  • Trip duration, energy consumption and distance traveled.
  • Personal information such as name, email, vehicle type and home address

If you move out of state, sell your EV or simply wish to no longer participate in the program, please notify SmartCharge Rewards Support by email (support@smartchargerewards.com) to end your participation in the program and for instructions on how to return your C2 device if you have not yet activated it.
